Facilities at the Visitor Centre

Souvenir Shop

A full upgrade of Orakei Korako was completed in 2011. Renovations included work on our grounds, shop, toilet block and a new custom-built ferry. The souvenir shop has also had a makeover, meaning you can now find the perfect memento or gift in our full range of mud beauty products, t-shirts, hats, magnets and other memorabilia - all at the best prices.

MudCake Café

Kick off your Orakei Korako experience at the Mudcake Café with a freshly brewed espresso or cappucino from our experienced baristas, with a hot chocolate or fluffy for the little ones.  Enjoy spectacular views of Lake Ohakuri from the riverside deck, and treat yourself to delicious pies, sandwiches and fresh baking. Mudcake Café is licensed, so you may prefer to relax with a glass of wine or beer after exploring the geothermal area, and check your emails using our free wi-fi.  You're also welcome to enjoy a picnic on the large grass area above our lakeside beach.

Wheelchair Access to Visitor Centre

All pathways to our Visitor Centre now have wheelchair access, so anyone can sit and relax at our riverside café and enjoy a cappuccino brewed freshly by our experienced and friendly staff.

The walk itself has many steps and is not wheelchair or stroller friendly, however we provide baby backpacks free of charge for children under two years of age.

Self-contained Campervans / RVs

We allow overnight parking in our carpark upon as part of admission to Orakei Korako, however we do not have powered sites. Toilets are usually open 8am - 5pm, so it is essential that the vehicle/camper is self-contained. There is strictly no dumping of rubbish in our bins or disposal of grey water allowed.

Wi-Fi Available

Along with the physical upgrades we have also recently moved forward with the technology front. We provide up to 50MB of free wireless internet access with entry to Orakei Korako Cave & Thermal Park. We hope this convenience helps you to stay connected with friends and family - and with us as well! We welcome feedback from our guests, so please join us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and comment on TripAdvisor. There is also a tablet installed in the Visitor Centre for guests to use to check their emails.
