Awesome Experience at Orakei Korako

Coming from a city state where we grew up not being to experience nature’s wonders, this visit was a real treat for both the husband and I. Tickets can be purchased very easily at the visitor’s centre, after which, you will need to take a small boat across the river to embark on the hike.

I was a little worried when I was told there are no maps, you just follow the pathway. But upon arrival, I was quickly set at ease as there were very clear directional signage to guide your experience. At every pit stop, there were short and succinct descriptions to help you understand what you are looking at. We especially loved the walk through the geothermal valley with steam oozing out from the ground. It was such an incredible experience.

One thing for sure, you will need to ensure that you are dressed comfortably and light, with good walking shoes. The hike was quite a good workout for the husband and I. We were not sure if seniors can take the full hike up and down the stairs though. But there are benches along the way if you are tired, and we believe, you are able to also decide if you want to stick through the full hike or take the express walk version.

But overall, this is definitely a must-do Experience for everyone. We had a lot of fun!
