A Place Like No Other in the World

Orakei Korako the hidden valley is Taupo’s best kept secret. There are few places like it in the world, where visitor can observe earth’s geothermal activity in so many ways. As you cruise to the valley on the Mighty Waikato, see geothermal phenomena on the water’s edge. A Family-Run Business With Families in Mind

Orakei Korako is a family run business, accommodating families is what they do best. The half day family pass allows families of two adults and up to six kids to stretch their legs and explore the geothermal park. Even better, the family pet, is welcome as well. If they are on a lead (and you pick up their business), Orakei Korako is a pet-friendly visitor park. The many walking trails can tire little feet, that’s why you can make use of the complimentary baby carriers. 

Orakei Korako features clearly marked trails and informative signs for visitors to interpret the environment but also share the significance of the place with loved ones. With plenty of seating, the park makes for the deal half-day adventure from Rotorua or Taupo. 

The Perfect Rainy-Day Activity

Rainy days are exceptionally stunning at Orakei Korako. The geothermal activity really comes to life and the exceptional colours the park is well known for are particularly vibrant.  The hot springs, geysers and clear blue pools are a stunning sight no matter the weather but particularly beautiful with overcast skies. The 150-metre silica terrace knows as the Artist’s Palette is a sight to see.

Aotearoa’s Only Geothermal Cave 

The thermal Ruatapu cave (sacred hole) is the only one of it’s type in New Zealand. Extending 35 metres down to a hot pool called Waiwhakaata or Pool of Mirror. There are only two know geothermal caves in the world which make any trip to Orakei Korako a unique experience. Whilst the pool isn’t accessible, a viewing platform provides a glimpse into the cave.  The park features extensive walkways allowing visitors to explore safely. 

A Cruise to the Park

Orakei Korako geothermal park is accessed by ferry.  Young and old love accessing the park in such a unique fashion, observing the geothermal activity on the journey. The ferry runs daily between the visitor centre and the main entrance to the park. Kids particularly enjoy the ride.

Free Baby Carriers

Orakei Korako provides free baby carriers for families with younger ones. A great way for families to enjoy the stunning Silica Terraces such as the Rainbow and Cascade terraces, that feature numerous small geysers, including the Sapphire Geyser with is intermittently active.

A Riverside Café To Take It All In

Perhaps the best part of any visit to Orakei Korako is to sit by the river at the café to enjoy a cold drink and delicious food. Overlooking the Waikato River, across to the geothermal park, visitor can take in the geothermal activity and stay connected with loved ones (or your followers) with complimentary wifi.
